1.     Crunch Time 关键时刻

释义:the period of time just before a project has to be completed and everyone has to work hard.

例句:I am not getting enough sleep these days. It is crunch time at work.这段时间我一直睡不够,因为最近是工作项目中的关键时刻。

 

2.     Let your freak flag fly 脱颖而出,让别人刮目相看

释义:to let others see your uniqueness

例句:My colleagues were surprised at the Christmas party, I let my freak flag fly and showed them a break dance routine 圣诞晚会上我跳了霹雳舞,我的同事们都惊呆了,顿时对我刮目相看。

 

3.     Get out of hand 局面失控

释义:when you lose control of things, they get out of hand.

例句:The party got out of hand and the guests started to throw bottles at each other. 宾客们开始互相乱扔酒瓶,聚会场面失控了。

 

4.     Get you head around it 理解,明白

释义:to understand something

例句:I just can’t get my head around the fact that Andy is leaving us.我就是想不明白,Andy为什么离开我们。

 

5.     Dig in your heels / Stick to your guns 坚持己见,不妥协

释义:to refuse to compromise or change your mind

例句:My parents wanted me to give up writing, but I dug in my heels / stuck to my guns and went on to become a famous writer. 我父母想让我放弃写作,但我没有妥协,坚持写作,终于成为了一位著名的作家。

 

6.     Pound the pavement 出去找份工作。

释义:to walk the streets looking for a job.

例句:I’d been pounding the pavement for months before I found a job in a fast food restaurant..找了好几个月的工作,终于有一家快餐店要我了。

 

7.     Pull a rabbit out of a hat 力挽狂澜,大逆转

释义:to do something unexpected that may have seemed impossible.

例句:I thought we were going bankrupt, but my partner pulled a rabbit out of his hat and we landed a major contract..本以为我们会破产,但我的合作伙伴力挽狂澜,我们终于接了个大单子。

 

8.     Leave no stone unturned 竭尽全力,不遗余力

释义:to do everything you can to achieve your goal

例句:I’ll leave no stone unturned until I find out who did this 我将竭尽全力查出到底是谁干的。

 

9.     Get it out of your system 把心里想了很久的事情付诸实践。

释义:to do something you’ve wanted for a long time and don’t want to postpone any longer.

例句:I wasn’t sure how she was going to react, but I had to get it out of my system, so I told her I had found anther woman. 我不知道她有什么反应,但我不想再忍了,所以我告诉她我已经找了另外一个女人了。

 

10.  Step up your game 表现得更好

释义:to start performing better

例句:If you want to win this competition, you’ll have to step up your game.如果你想赢得这场比赛,你必须表现得更好。

 

11.  Pull yourself together 冷静下来

释义:to calm down and behave normally

例句:I understand you’ve had a bad day, but pull yourself together and get on with your job, will you? 我知道你今天过的很糟糕,但现在请你冷静下来,做你该做的工作,好吗?

 

12.  Shape up or ship out 要么好好干,要么就滚蛋

释义:either start performing better or leave

例句: This is the last time I’m telling you to arrive on time, Shape up or ship out.。这是我最后一次告诉你要准时,做不到就滚蛋吧。
