商务英语口语学习：如何取消预约

常言道：“计划赶不上变化”，在日常商务活动中，原本约定的事因为一些突发事情而取消，这也算平常的事，但我们要做的是，一定要及时地通知到对方，这样就不会显得不礼貌了， 而如果你不通知对方或者通知不及时，这也就会严重地影响着你的诚信了。所以今天我们学习一下，在商务英语中，我们应该如何取消预约。 

简:Good morning. Smith Association. 

  早上好.这里是史密斯协会. 

布朗:This is Brown speaking. I`d like to speak to Mr. Smith. 

  我是布朗.我想和史密斯先生通话. 

简:I`m sorry, but Mr. Smith left just a few minutes ago. 

  很抱歉.史密斯先生刚在几分钟前离开了. 

布朗:I have been trying to call him for the last ten minutes, but your line is always busy. Willhe be back soon? 

  之前十分钟我一直在打电话但是总占线.他很快能回来吗? 

简:I`m afraid not. He is away for the rest of the day. 

  恐怕不能.他今天一天都不在. 

布朗:Is there any way I can reach him? 

  还有别的办法能联系到他吗? 

简:I`m afraid not. He has gone out of this town on business. May I take a message?

  恐怕不能.他出城了.我可以捎个口信吗? 

布朗:I have a business appointment with him at 9 o`clock tomorrow morning, but I`m afraid Ican`t make it. 

  明天上午9点我和他有个商务约会.我恐怕不能参加了. 

简:Would you like to make another appointment? 

  您想另外约时间吗? 

布朗:Unfortunately ,I`m leaving here unexpectedly, and I may be away for several days. 

  遗憾的是.我凑巧有事要办.可能要出去几天. 

简:I see. I`ll tell Mr. Smith that you have called. 

  明白了.我会告诉史密斯先生您来过电话了. 

布朗:Thank you. 

  谢谢.

"make it"这一常见表达有很多意思,现列明如下:

1.to be successful in your career 获得成功

He never really made it as an actor. 他从来就不是一个成功的演员。

2.to succeed in reaching a place in time, especially when this is difficult （尤指在困难情况下）准时到达

The flight leaves in twenty minutes─we'll never make it. 再过二十分钟飞机就起飞了，咱们无论如何也赶不上了。

3.to be able to be present at a place 能够出席（或到场）

I'm sorry I won't be able to make it(for example, to a party)on Saturday. 很抱歉，星期六我不能出席。

4.to survive after a serious illness or accident; to deal successfully with a difficultexperience 幸免于难；渡过难关

The doctors think he's going to make it. 医生们认为他能挺过去。

I don't know how I made it through the week. 我不知道自己是怎么熬过那个星期的。

要表达与某人取得联系(尤指通过电话),最简单的表达法就是reach sb.

Do you know where I can reach him? 你知道我在哪儿能跟他联系上吗?
